On Saturday, August 5, Operation: Heal Our Heroes (HOH) is presenting its 2nd annual fundraiser, Survivor Series: Montauk.
“Montauk is the perfect location for our 2nd annual Survivor Series because it’s such a close-knit community that has always had a lot of passion for supporting the troops,” noted Everett Weston, HOH Co-Founder and former Army Captain. “By raising awareness of the importance of mental health, particularly related to Post Traumatic Stress, HOH has been able to help veterans and their families feel more comfortable addressing those issues.”
Participants will partake in a scenic run through the woods of Edward Ecker County Park,and once the 5K is completed, HOH will host a morning of competitive team-building activities that revolve around fitness and community involvement. Montauk local and former Marine Sergeant John Behan, who lost both his legs during the Vietnam War, will serve as the honorary race starter. Additionally, Telsa vehicles will be on site for guests to demo.
Every $5,000 raised at Survivor Series: Montauk allows HOH, a 501(c)3 non-profit veteran’s organization, to provide one veteran with unlimited access to private mental healthcare services and support for the rest of their life through the Weil Cornell Medical Center, provided through The Headstrong Project. HOH hopes to raise $50,000 at this year’s 5K.

“We lose one veteran to suicide every 72 minutes and that staggering statistic needs to be curtailed,” Weston stressed. “All funds raised from our events help fund private mental health care programs to ensure veterans get the help they need to make a successful transition home.”
HOH’s mission is “to raise awareness and resources to help end the suicide epidemic taking the lives of nearly 20 veterans each day due to their suffering from service-related Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).”
Later in the evening, participants are invited to stop by Ruschmeyer’s (161 2nd House Road, Montauk) for an open bar from 6 to 9 p.m.
Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K starts at 10 a.m. Participants may compete as an individual or as a team of five by taking the HOH team pledge.
