Do you manage to incorporate garlic in just about every meal you make? Is it your go to source for flavoring? You’re going to want to mark your calendars and join the Garden of Eve Organic Farm & Market in Riverhead on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17 for the Long Island Garlic Festival 2017.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Festival, which is dedicated to celebrating food, farming, and family fun, will showcase a wide variety of organic garlic, garlic inspired bites like garlic jellies, garlic soup, pickled garlic, and even garlic ice cream, crafts, live music, sustainability information, and more. Garden of Eve and the other featured Long Island Organic Farms grow more than a ton of freshly harvested, organic garlic.
Think you’ve got a dish that seriously highlights garlic that will blow any other away, or that you can handle chowing down on more than any other? Sign up for one of the Festival’s signature competitions. “We’ve got a Garlic Cooking Contest, we’ve got a Garlic Eating Contest, and now we’ve even got a Garlic Breath Contest!” shared Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht of Garden of Eve Organic Farm & Market. “Eat as much garlic as you like, and see if you can get the worst, most garlickly breath ever!”
While whoever you came to the Festival with may want to stay a few steps away from you if you enter the Garlic Breath Contest, the competitor that takes home top honors will certainly think it’s worth the price of having potent breath. “The winner takes home a year’s supply of Fudge from Fat Ass Fudge, one of our vendors at the Festival,” she shared.

Of course if eating massive quantities of garlic in a short period of time, competing to be the next Junior Iron Chef Garlic, or having seriously garlickly breath isn’t your thing, the Festival will offer plenty of other things to do. “For those who aren’t feeling competitive, we’ll still have garlic foods to eat, garlic to plant, live music, hayrides, pumpkin picking, and 50 vendors of all things garlic for you to enjoy!” added Kaplan-Walbrecht.
Festivalgoers can also enjoy children’s games and play equipment, pony rides, animals to see and feed, live music from Bruce McDonald of Barbeque Bruce and the Brisket Brothers, Long Island Bluegrass Quartet, Free Grass Union, Ken Korb of Red River Ramblers, Buddy Merriam & BackRoads, and He Bird She Bird, “How to Grow Garlic” workshops with Phil from Biophilia Organic Farm and Chris Kaplan-Walbrecht, vendor cooking demos, and more.
Admission to the Long Island Garlic Festival 2017 is $5 per person at the door, and free for children under 6-years-old.
