Hamptons-Based Historical Society Appoints Maria Vann As Executive Director

The East Hampton Historical Society recently announced that Maria Vann will take over as Executive Director beginning February 5, 2018. Originally from Long Island, Vann was the former Director of the Maritime Museum at Battleship Cove (Massachusetts) and Iroquois Indian Museum (New York State). She has extensive experience in museum education for institutes and has served as an adjunct history professor at SUNY College at Oneonta.

“I’m excited to use my professional training and experience to lead the East Hampton Historical Society into its next phase of growth,” said Ms. Vann. “The Society’s excellent reputation and solid foundation is poised for greater visitor engagement.”

To make 2018 even more exciting, the Thomas Moran Studio has recently been acquired by the East Hampton Historical Society. “The Board of the Thomas Moran Trust is thrilled to have completed its mission of restoring the Moran house and we are very excited to turn over the operation of this historic property to the East Hampton Historical Society,” said Curt Schade, Chairman of the Thomas Moran Trust.

The East Hampton Historical Society is proud to share these recent developments and looks forward to continuing its mission of serving residents and visitors of East Hampton by collecting, preserving, presenting and interpreting the cultural heritage of the town and its surroundings. “I am eager to get to know the community, work with the Board, and explore partnerships and collaborations,” said Vann. “The East Hampton Historical Society is an energetic and diverse organization and I am thrilled to implement new ideas to help bring personal meaning to visitor experiences.”
