Hamptons Halloween-Themed Happenings For Kids And Teens

It’s not just about the sweet treats leading up to Halloween.

The Mannix Studio of Art and The Madoo Conservancy are teaming up on Saturday, October 20 for a Halloween Paint Fun featuring step by step instructions at Madoo Conservancy (618 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, www.mannix.studio) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Ideal for ages six and up, this workshop, which is open to beginners, will focus on a seasonal classic – The Scarecrow. And, in addition to keeping their masterpiece, little ones will also be gifted a pumpkin that they can embellish.

It’s almost not the season of All Hallows Eve if you don’t tune into Hocus Pocus at least once. Montauk Library (871 Montauk Highway, Montauk, montauklibrary.org) is screening the classic, which stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, on Saturday, October 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.

For those looking for some serious spook, Fright Night at SYS (1370a Majors Path, Southampton, www.southamptontownny.gov) will take place on Saturday, October 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. The bone chilling affair will commence with a fraction of the frights during the family friendly hours (6 to 7:30 p.m.), but then the scares won’t quit as youth ages 12 and up travel through the eerie route. If the thought of being trapped in a creepy room gets their juices flowing, then they’ll be psyched for Fright Night’s Escape Room, which is inspired by the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. Escape Roomers will have just 30-minutes to figure their way out of the otherworldly spot.

Cute jack-o’-lanterns not your kid’s thing? Hampton Bays Public Library (52 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays, hamptonbayslibrary.org) is presenting Hack-o-Lanterns on Monday, October 22 at 3 p.m. Teens can take a plain, ordinary pumpkin and transform – with tips and tricks from pros – it into a ghastly sight that will awe trick-or-treaters. Additionally, teens that revel in the flavors of the season can compete in the Library’s “cut-throat” Halloween themed challenge, A Very Chopped Halloween, on Monday, October 29 at 3 p.m.

Stages will present their annual Halloween-themed musical revue, Frankenstein Follies, from Friday, October 26 through Sunday, October 28. The show, which can be seen at Bay Street (1 Bay Street, Sag Harbor, ww.baystreet.org), brings together a cast of everybody’s favorite monsters and ghouls portrayed by an exceptional group of local rising stars.

Another seasonal classic is Beetlejuice – starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton, which is screening at East Hampton Library (159 Main Street, East Hampton, www.eventbrite.com) on Friday, October 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Quogue Wildlife Refuge’s (3 Old Country Road, Quogue, quoguewildliferefuge.org) beloved Enchanted Forest returns Saturday, October 27, Sunday, October 28, and Saturday, November 3. Open from 12 to 2:30 p.m., little ones will encounter whimsical, thrilling, and educational Refuge residents and guests as they traverse the forest trails. There will also be a plethora of games and activities in the Refuge’s parking lot.

Halloween is coming to Good Ground Park (9A Squiretown Road, Hampton Bays, www.southamptontownny.gov) on Saturday, October 27 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Little ones can begin their day trick or treating during the annual Mark Sinclair Foundation walk about on Main Street and then head to the Park for seasonal fun and games, pumpkin decorating, cider, snacks, arts and crafts, a magician and costume contest.
