South Fork Awarded Nearly $16.7 Million In Economic Development Funding

The East End will benefit from nearly $17 million of grant funding awarded by Governor Cuomo through the Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC).

“These economic development grants represent a major commitment by the State of New York to take the lead in creating jobs and improving the economy,” State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. relayed.

Round VIII of the REDC competition offered over $750 million in state economic development resources, which was available to the 10 Regional Councils. Long Island was allocated $68.3 million in support for 103 projects that revolve around vital initiatives for regional growth.

Several projects will be taking place throughout the 1st Assembly District. BNB Bank was awarded $94,500 for Customer Service Training; Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center was awarded $300,000 for Expansion; Children’s Museum of the East End was awarded $302,400 for its Riverside Expansion, $75,000 for Workforce Training & Development Programs, and another $150,000 for the Riverside Expansion; East End Arts & Humanities Council, Inc. was awarded $60,000 for Workforce Expansion; East End Tourism Alliance was awarded $140,625 for “Seasons of Reasons”; Eastern Suffolk BOCES was awarded $99,999 for Construction Trades Training; Excelsior Fish Corp was awarded $125,000 for Haskell’s Seafood; Manna Fish Farms, Inc. was awarded $100,000 for Shinnecock Dock Revitalization; Peconic Land Trust was awarded $3,000,000 for Regional Aquifer Protection; Land Acquisition Program Phase II; Sag Harbor Industries, Inc. was awarded $49,063 for Soldering Certification Training; Spur Innovation, Inc. was awarded $500,000 for The Spur Innovation Center in Southampton; Suffolk County was awarded $5,000,000 for Suffolk County Sewer Extensions; Town of Brookhaven was awarded $375,000 for Mastic Beach Wetlands Restoration; Town of East Hampton was awarded $400,000 for East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery; Town of Shelter Island was awarded $113,370 for Crescent Beach Comfort Station; Town of Southampton was awarded $410,000 for Alewife Creek Culvert Right Sizing; Town of Southampton was awarded $387,484 for Riverside Maritime Trail; and Village of Westhampton Beach was awarded $5,000,000 for Village of Westhampton Beach Sewer Extension.

“I am pleased that Long Island was chosen for such substantial funding and that the businesses and communities in my District will benefit,” Thiele added.
