Southampton Historical Museum’s Harvest Fair To Feature Historical Demonstrations, And More

The Southampton Historical Museum will once again highlight life during the 19th century at its annual Harvest Fair at the Rogers Mansion in Southampton. Taking place on Saturday, September 21 as part of Southamptonfest, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. fair-goers will enjoy outdoor crafts, tool making demonstrations, Shinnecock Tribe dancing, and more.

“Harvest Day Fair is for people of all ages who enjoy hands-on activities, bluegrass music, farm animals and traditional farm demonstrations,” Tom Edmonds, Southampton History Museum Executive Director, shared. “Expect to have a lot of fun participating or just to watch others.”

The afternoon will transport attendees to a simpler time, when the entire clan contributed to family’s source of income and sustainable home life.

Harvest Fair activities will include sheep shearing, a blacksmith, revolutionary war reenactors, tussie-mussies, colonial camp kitchen, decoy carver display, wood carving, general store shop keeper, quill writing activity, carpenter shop tool demonstration, one room schoolhouse teacher, colonial games for kids, basket weaver and much more.

The Museum’s Carriage Houses Thrift Shop will also be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., showcasing a wide variety of unique vintage furniture, dishes, jewelry, rugs, and other unusual items that are available for purchase.

The Long Island Livestock Company, a 17-acre llama and animal farm in Yaphank that participates in animal assisted therapy programs at rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities, will be onsite with some very special guests. They will demonstrate sheep shearing at 12:30 p.m., and again at 2 p.m.

When attendees feel famished, they can grab a bite to eat from the Clamman/Seasons Caterers of Southampton, who will be serving up lobster rolls, hot dogs, roasted corn, clam chowder and sodas.

The Feinberg Brothers, an authentic, five-member, bluegrass band from Long Island, will provide live music from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Additionally, Josephine Smith, cultural educator at the Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center and Museum, will lead a group of Shinnecock Tribe members in stunning movements highlighted by traditional Shinnecock drumming at 3 p.m.

There is no fee to attend the Harvest Fair.
