The Holiday Spirit To Spread Throughout Downtown Riverhead

After weather foiled the initial date (December 14) planned for the Downtown Riverhead Holiday Parade and Bonfire, the Riverhead Business Improvement District, Town of Riverhead, and Riverhead Lions Club will host the beloved seasonal extravaganza on Saturday, December 21.

“We are thrilled to once again host this annual event with the positivity and participation of the town and people of Riverhead; making this a special holiday tradition for hundreds of families and children every year,” Kristy Verity, Executive Director, Riverhead Business Improvement District, relayed.

The joyous gathering will begin at 3 p.m. with the 68th Annual Lion’s Club Holiday Parade, which travels west to east along Main Street. It will culminate at approximately at 3:45 p.m., along the riverfront where the cozy bonfire will take place. The merry march will boast fire trucks, floats, marching bands, tractors and of course, Santa.

The 20th Annual Bonfire along the Peconic (behind the East End Arts building), presented by the Riverhead BIDMA, will include the chance to check out Santa’s Gingerbread House, visit with Kris Kringle, and even document the moment with a picture. The afternoon will include complimentary candy canes and hot chocolate. Attendees are encouraged to revel in the festivities by packing a picnic, blankets and lawn chairs. For those looking to make the holidays even more special by adding a new member to the family, Bidawee’s Mobile Adoption Van will be onsite with adorable dogs and cats that are looking for their forever homes.

“Come for an afternoon of community, celebration and cheer, including free visits and photos with Santa, hot chocolate and candy canes,” Verity added. “The BID is so proud of our Downtown and we enjoy giving back and sharing the holiday spirit with all of Riverhead.”

There is no fee to attend the Holiday Parade and Bonfire.
