Randy Hoffman, both a volunteer and paid Critical Care EMT for ambulance and fire departments in both Sag Harbor and East Hampton, as well as Montauk, has been recognized for his quick-thinking life-saving efforts and actions in the past, and who is now, unfortunately, facing his own medical emergency.
Well-known in numerous East End communities for his passion for building, restoring and racing vintage motorcycles, the Maryland Institute College of Art graduate is known for his quick wit. Hoffman, who has two children, lives in East Hampton.
Hoffman recently underwent routine spinal surgery, and following unforeseen complications, is now paralyzed from the waist down, but has regained use of his arms and upper body. He was recently moved from ICU to an in-patient acute care rehabilitation center where he is receiving intensive physical therapy.

Hoffman, who has attended to numerous emergency calls in his 12 years of volunteer and paid service, also works as an independent contractor, building kitchens and custom cabinets at Hoffman Custom, Inc., and will be unable to work for some time in the near future.
His sister, Alison Hoffman Stern, has started a Facebook fundraiser page, www.facebook.com to help with his current and future bills. Alison also advised that checks payable to Randy Hoffman, can be mailed to P.O. Box 2763, East Hampton, NY 11937. Alison relayed that “Randy and his family and close friends are so grateful to the community for their outpouring of support and encouragement. Randy reads all Facebook messages and texts and is very thankful to everyone who has contributed to his fundraiser.”
It is always important to remember those in need, as many seem to do just during the holiday season, however, it is equally important to remember the opportunity during any time of year to acknowledge in a practical manner those kindnesses that may have been extended to you by this gentleman, along with sincere wishes for a speedy and successful recovery – so if possible – dig deep.
