New Hamptons TV Show To Focus On Pressing Medical Concerns

The Southampton Hospital Foundation has teamed up with LTV to provide East Enders with a unique way to learn about some of the most pressing healthcare issues through Hamptons Health Hotline.

“We are always looking at new ways to serve our communities, and this new program on LTV provides a way for people to get to know the healthcare experts working in their communities,” Mirella Cameran-Reilly, Southampton Hospital Foundation Director Brand Experience and Hamptons Health Hotline host, relayed. “There is so much information out there and so many conflicting messages, it’s hard to know what to believe sometimes. Our physicians and experts can provide trustworthy insights into the medical issues that people are worried about.”

Each episode will feature a different healthcare expert who will speak about the healthcare concern of their specialty. Topics will range from heart disease to cancer to stroke to diabetes to tick-borne diseases and more.

“As an East Hampton resident, I am delighted that we are able to produce a quality program to communicate valuable information on healthcare. It’s another example of how we can serve our community and make everyone more aware of the services and expertise available to them near to home,” Robert S. Chaloner, Chief Administrative Officer of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and President of the Southampton Hospital Foundation, expressed.

The first episode, New Year, New You? premiered on LTV-Channel 20 on Tuesday, February 4, in East Hampton and Sag Harbor. It welcomed top NYC integrative psychotherapist David Waters, who covered ways to stick to new resolutions. The second episode, Affairs of the Heart, addresses the biggest killer of men and women in the United States, cardiovascular disease (CVD). Leading interventional cardiologist Dr. J.P. Reilly will discuss the signs of a heart attack, the importance of acting quickly when those signs appear, ways to reduce risk factor, and more.

“We are excited about Hamptons Health Hotline at LTV–which is part of our new programming development outreach, and represents what we hope is a continued synergy with Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. As the Hospital branches out with medical outposts and plans to extend satellite services in the Hamptons, including the township of East Hampton,” Angela LaGreca, Local TV, Inc. Creative Director, explained. “We felt a show like this on LTV was a win-win–offering the local community solid wellness information, advice, and answers to their medical/wellness questions. And with our video on demand, and YouTube, it has the potential to reach many more people. I’m happy to have worked with the Southampton Hospital Foundation to input and encourage them to do their own show–and they have really taken the steps to thoughtfully plan out great topics and guests, and work with the staff at LTV to get this going–we are thrilled.”

Viewers are also encouraged to send in their medical questions via Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, which will be addressed in future episodes. “We hope viewers will enjoy the program and tell us what topics and concerns we need to cover,” Cameran-Reilly noted.

“Education and awareness are the keys to better healthcare,” Sheila Rogers of the East Hampton Healthcare Foundation relayed. “The Southampton Hospital’s new program, Hamptons Health Hotline, is another great way for our community to learn more about key health issues and about the services and experts available to them in this community.”

In addition to Affairs of the Heart and New Year, New You?, February will feature Real Life Story: Stephanie Bitis & My Heart Attack. Hamptons Health Hotline will present a new episode at least once a month.

“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to listen to the community’s healthcare concerns on an on-going basis and respond to them,” Chaloner added.

The program will air on Channel 20 on Thursdays at 7p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. It can also be viewed on LTV www.ltveh.org, as well as on Southampton Hospital Foundation’s YouTube Channel (YouTube.com) and on the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital website, www.southampton.stonybrookmedicine.edu.
