East End Cares (EEC), a local forum that unites those in need with people who want to assist, is gearing up to help those impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19), as the deadly disease continues to spread across the world.
“East End Cares is mobilizing to assist during this uncertain time,” Melissa Berman of East End Cares shared. “We are looking at the best way to serve and facilitate the good will of our amazing volunteer community.”
In New York alone, there have been more than 1,300 cases reported, with 84 in Suffolk County (as of March 17).
Currently, they are asking that those who want to lend a helping hand reach out, as EEC prepares to do whatever the organization can to assist. “We will keep you updated as we know more and look forward to coming together to help each other as we always do,” Berman noted.
While EEC has no set plans yet, there is one thing that Berman pleaded with East Enders to do. “For now the first and most important is we are asking EVERYONE to take this pledge. We need your Pledge NOW. EECers, we are being challenged with a historic event. One that is asking us to be our best and strongest and smartest and kindest selves,” Berman reflected. “The single best thing you can do for your own and the health of your friends and neighbors is to stay home. This action will not only help curb the spread COVID-19 it will literally save our health care system from crumble and putting anyone in need of any healthcare at grave risk.”
Both Southampton and East Hampton Towns have declared a state of emergency due to the Coronavirus.
“Let’s all make this simple yet lifesaving Pledge to stay home,” Berman stressed. “If you have to go to work or out, do all you can to stay six feet from others.”
For those in need of assistance during the next couple of weeks, East End Cares will be there. “If you are in need of help – email eastendcares1@gmail.com and we will do our best to find you the help you need. If you want to sign up as a volunteer, please email there as well,” she explained.
Berman expects to have a plan of action finalized soon.
“We will get through this together,” Berman stated. “But that starts with staying apart.”
“Will you ADD YOUR NAME BELOW and take a pledge to do all you can and STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE?” she concluded.
