Bonnie Grice has always been promoting civic events, fundraisers, and so forth for many decades out on the East End. The list of folks she has interviewed on her radio shows over the years reads like a Who’s Who of the Hamptons. The amount of good will she has created or helped spread to all corners of the Hamptons is immeasurable. Her latest project, boots on the ground theater, is a success – having entertained both mature audiences and school children alike.
So it was with keen interest that I was fascinated to see what she is up to now. She did not disappoint, she is designing and assembling some highly fashionable face masks from the many leftover fabrics she has collected over the years doing costumes and sets. “They are not like the super ones that eliminate all germs and so forth,” she said. “In fact, I told a hospital worker to whom I gave one to, ‘Put it over your hi-tech mask to keep it cleaner and look good at the same time.'”
Grice said, “I felt like I wanted to do something creative and help. I know how to sew, I had the fabric, and when some Southampton Cultural Center friends said they were making masks, I thought, well I can that too! Now I am enjoying making some really cool looking masks. I give them to friends, to folks who say they need one, even to listeners of my weekend radio shows on WLNG (‘Rock On’ – Saturday 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and ‘Brunch With Bonnie’ – Sunday 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM).”

I was shown a photo of her masks and I must say they are great.
While talking about the masks, I couldn’t help but ask her about the last boots on the ground theater project, Ed Lange’s Sherlock’s Secret Life. The show opened on March 6th at the Southampton Cultural Center, but closed after only three shows because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Grice had some good news: the show and original cast will return in early October 2020 at the Southampton Cultural Center – with Josephine Tersisi-Wallace resuming her directing duties.
Meanwhile, Grice is channeling her energy into making these colorful masks to as she put it, “Do something, my little share, help some people, and help us all get through this unfortunate Coronavirus situation.” She is not selling the masks, nor seeking donations, however she did say she hopes “others will do whatever it is they can… be it drive some seniors, donate food or even make masks too.”
Bonnie Grice is just another amazing story of good people doing good things to help overcome the evil of this Coronavirus pandemic.
