Halloween Fest Canceled, But Halloween Lamp Post Decorating, “Trunk Or Treat” Drive-Thru Still On

While unfortunately the beloved Riverhead Halloween Fest will be taking the year off, the Riverhead Business Improvement District [Riverhead BID] will still brew up some special All Hallows’ Eve magic.

“Downtown Riverhead’s Halloween Fest is a special tradition that showcases the talents and enthusiasm of our community, but it would be impossible to socially distance all participants and stay within crowd limitations,” Kristy Verity, Executive Director, Riverhead BID, explained. “We regretfully announce that we cannot host Halloween Fest as we have in years past.”

That means no coffin races and Halloween parade, but the community can help the BID bring the spook to Riverhead through the Halloween lamp post display. “While limited by current restrictions on events, this is an activity that can still occur. We are focused on ways to help our community enjoy special occasions and will continue as many traditions as we safely can,” Verity noted.

There are nearly 50 Main Street lamp posts in need of seasonal sprucing up – either Halloween or autumn themed. Participants must decorate their designated spot between Tuesday, October 13 and Tuesday, October 20. “Decorating Main Street’s lamp posts every year brings whimsy to our town and we aren’t letting that go,” she relayed.

In celebration of the season, many Downtown Riverhead eateries and businesses will be decorated and offering Halloween-themed specials.

Additionally, the Town of Riverhead’s Recreation Department is hosting a ‘Trunk or Treat’ drive-thru on Saturday, October 24. The event will be held at Stotzy Park from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.riverheadrecreation.net.
