Conga Cartel brilliantly combines the complex rhythms and Latin influences of South America with a modern fusion of funk and commercial dance music to produce an explosive mix of dynamic music that rocks audiences to their very core. Musically, the band weaves a wonderful tapestry of Latin music culture with experienced musicians from New York, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Fusing multiple musical heritages and genres, like any great band, the group is greater than the individual talents alone. Together, each member adds their unique flavor to the sound. Willy Fuentes (Chile) drives the rhythm section with solid bass line grooves, while Jorge Castano (Colombia) provides a perfect interplay with the rest of the band, playing drums with boundless vitality. Father and son percussionists Aquiles Jr. and Aquiles Senior (Venezuela) provide an infectious top line of congas, timbales, maracas, bongos, bells, and whistles that brings the carnival to the party. Finally, Fabian Rodriguez (Ecuador) fittingly adds Santana-inspired guitar licks to the mix.
Frequent fixtures throughout the Hamptons, Conga Cartel, has performed at many memorable events, including The Montauk Music Festival, North-West ‘Woodstock,’ Stephen Talkhouse, The Gig Shack, Springs Tavern, Tauk at Trails End, The Surf Club, and The Harpoon House. Conga Cartel has also collaborated with members of Mambo Loco, Taylor Dayne, Orquesta Alquimia, Steel Pulse, Mila Tina, GE Smith, Big Karma, and Bajo Suenos.
There is nothing finer than hearing the Conga Cartel in full flight. Their collective knowledge of syncopated rhythms and inspiring, sophisticated melodies is a testament to their self-belief and desire to take their music to the next level. Music is the one thing that binds us as human beings, and the cultural exchange that the Conga Cartel represents lives through us in joy, love, celebration, and song.
