If you work at any golf course in the Hamptons, you probably know a guy named Paul Dickinson. The guy is an absolute beast on the golf course. Hailing from Montauk, Paul Dickinson is currently playing in the PGA Championship at the Southern Hills Country Club in Oklahoma. This year, the winner’s purse is $2.16 million. The overall prize pool is $12 million, which means that if you are in the top 70 golfers, you get to walk away with a tidy sum.
Paul is local to Montauk. His wife is a physical ed teacher at the Montauk School and they are raising their sons there. Paul is a well-known figure at most of the golf clubs in the Hampton; he currently works as a golf professional at the Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, and he is the talk of the town at the Montauk Downs Golf Course.
Getting a PGA Tour Card is the ultimate status of golfer. But to get there, one has to be really, really good. Paul has been chasing the PGA Tour since his twenties, knowing inwardly that he had what it takes. But his road to PGA Tour status has been a lifetime goal.
Nearly all golfers that have a PGA Tour card receive sponsorships and advertising contracts. It’s a very large production, so you have to not only be good enough to play, but good enough to handle the pressure as well. In 2021, Paul placed first at the Lincoln Pro Am in Montauk. He also placed third at the LIPGA Qualifier and first place again at the MET PGA Team Championship. Last week he competed in the Long Island PGA Championship at the Mill River Club where he placed third.
You can watch Paul play on the Golf Channel or ESPN on the tour which is playing until May 22nd, currently the Montauk man finished up the first round +2.
