An Evening of Gypsy Jazz with Sanda Weigl to Benefit HARLI
The Masonic Temple in Sag Harbor will host “An Evening of Gypsy Jazz for Hope with Sanda Weigl,” a special benefit concert featuring internationally acclaimed performers Sanda Weigl, Shoko Nagai, and Jameson Ellis.
All proceeds will benefit Hope and Resilience Long Island (HARLI), a nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking on Eastern Long Island.
About the Performers:
SANDA WEIGL is a celebrated vocalist known for her interpretations of Romanian folk and Roma songs. Born in Bucharest, Weigl has performed worldwide, including at Joe’s Pub in New York and alongside Nina Hagen in Berlin. Her acclaimed album “Gypsy in a Tree” showcases her stunning vocal delivery blending soul, jazz, and avant-garde precision. Her performances merge Romanian folk with works by Kurt Weill, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Edith Piaf, and Nina Simone.
SHOKO NAGAI is a versatile pianist, accordionist, and composer dubbed an “MVP” of the New York downtown jazz scene. Since moving from Japan in 1999, she has performed with John Zorn, Marc Ribot, and Frank London. She has toured internationally and received grants from Chamber Music America and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
JAMESON ELLIS is a Sag Harbor-based musician and performer joining Weigl and Nagai for this special benefit concert.
Hope and Resilience Long Island provides trauma-informed advocacy and support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking on Eastern Long Island.
