East Hampton Historical Society to Unveil Rediscovered Painting by Mary Nimmo Moran
East Hampton Historical Society will unveil a rediscovered Mary Nimmo Moran painting titled, A Young Apple Tree in Blossom in Dr. Ed Osborn’s Orchard, Easthampton, in a reception to be held on Monday, August 18th from 5 to 7 p.m. The painting, donated by Kay Spear Gibson and Robert Hefner, in memory of Isabel (Min) Spear Hefner, is to be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. at the Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran Home & Studio (229 Main Street, East Hampton). Tours of the Moran Garden will be conducted by the Garden Club of East Hampton.
“We are excited to have rediscovered this important late painting by Mary Nimmo Moran and are thrilled that it will again hang in the Moran Studio. The painting of a blossoming apple tree in her neighbor’s orchard evokes Mary’s artistic life at the Studio and her love of the natural beauty that surrounded her there,” shares Kay Gibson and Robert Hefner.
In addition to the rediscovered painting, the East Hampton Library is loaning the Historical Society another painting by Mary Nimmo Moran, expanding the collection to three of four paintings she is known to have worked on which will be displayed at the Moran Studio.
“During her life, Mary Nimmo Moran was far more acclaimed as an artist than she is today. By generously donating the painting and returning to the site where it was created, Kay Gibson and Bob Hefner are helping the public appreciate Mary’s incredible artistic talent once again. The Historical Society is also grateful to have the painting serve as a remembrance of Min Hefner, who was such a vital member of our community,” shares East Hampton Historical Society Executive Director Steve Long.
