The Fhitting Room In The Hamptons: A Personal Training Touch With The Fun Group Feel

This summer, The Fhitting Room, an upscale New York City-based high intensity training boutique fitness studio, is returning to the Hamptons.

“This is The Fhitting Room’s third summer ‘popping-up’ in the Hamptons,” explained Kari Saitowitz, Founder of The Fhitting Room. “Many of our NYC-based clients live or vacation in the Hamptons during the summer months, and our pop-up provides an opportunity for The Fhitting Room to remain part of their workout routines year-round.”

The comprehensive, body-changing workout focuses on a functional high intensity mix that uses the five essential building blocks (functional movements, strength exercises, high intensity intervals, total body focus and highly varied exercises) to allow clients to achieve optimum results.

“With high intensity training, it’s very effective. It’s a tough workout,” noted Sloan Symington Smith of The Fhitting Room. “In order to see the results, you have to push yourself. When you do do that, you’ll get amazing results because you’re pushing yourself out of your comfort zone which is the key to change.”

Class sizes are something that set the workout apart. “In general, what makes The Fhitting Room different is we max our classes at 24 people, and then there is always two instructors. We’re a hybrid between a personal fitness session and group fitness atmosphere, so it’s like the best of both worlds,” explained Symington Smith. “With personal training, you get a lot of modifications and scaling; they’re doing a lot of catering to you. The good things that come with a group fitness atmosphere is obviously it’s fun. There is a social element. There is a community element. So it’s like bringing those two worlds together.” The intimate classes allow each attendee to receive plenty of one-on-one attention and encouragement from the trainers.

Each FHIT pro comes with their own personal style and routine that combines rowers, plyo boxes, medicine balls, kettlebells, ski ergs, suspension trainers, battle ropes and much more. “Our instructors are really highly credentialed. This is really what they do,” added Symington Smith. “It’s their bread and butter; it’s not a side gig.”

Upon walking into the pop-up at Truth Training Fitness Center in East Hampton, we learned just exactly what we were getting ourselves into as we glanced at the workout’s lineup. The warm up started off with exercises like cherry pickers, inchworms, and jumping jacks. Then, we got into the strength session that featured kettle bell seated presses and swings that were done in repetition for a minute per exercise. After a few seconds of rest, it was back at it for 45 seconds, more rest and the final rep of 30 seconds. The circuit round included one minute at each station, covering row, goblet squats, plank ups, wall sits, and more (with rest in between each). Once we were done, we repeated the lineup for 45 seconds. The FHIX round covered burpees (everybody’s favorite), tuck ups and more. And, as if that wasn’t enough, our trainers decided to add some ab work. We left feeling sore, for sure, but we also left with an endorphin high that was well worth it.

With many Fhitting Room devotees summering in the Hamptons, Saitowitz wanted to make sure they could get their workout fix. “Since opening The Fhitting Room, our clients communicated a strong interest in maintaining the momentum, progress and results of their HIT (high intensity training) sessions throughout the summer months, and our clients and FHITpros have amazing relationships, so having each of our FHIT pros pop-up in the Hamptons makes for many happy clients and trainers,” added Saitowitz. “Also, working out in the Hamptons has become part of the social fabric of the East End, and many clients share houses with friends and/or family members. Our summer pop-ups are often the first Fhitting Room experience for newbies who come along with their Hamptons housemates and friends for a great sweat session.”

The Fhitting Room will offer classes every Saturday and Sunday in August at the Truth Training Fitness Center in East Hampton, and will also take part in the 2nd annual Southampton Sweat event on Saturday, August 20th.

  • Quogue Wildlife Refuge held its beloved ā€œLight The Nightā€ trail walk. I’ve heard through the grapevine that the annual walk is magical, peaceful, and paints the dreaded cold winter nights in a whole new light (literally).

The community braced the cold, freezing temperatures as they followed a lantern trail and entered a quaint marketplace with a Hamptons Coffee Company booth serving delicious, complimentary hot chocolate in reusable mugs, a merch booth with an impressive selection of animal stickers, beanies, pins, maps, stuffed animals, and my personal favorite, a bandana with a map of the Refuge. A must-have for any wildlife fanatic.
