Products That Give Back: Earth Day Edition

Doing your part to protect our Earth can be as easy as swapping out your beauty routine for a beloved eco-friendly brand. In honor of Earth Day, here are a few of our favorite choices.

Kiehl’s launched its 8th annual Limited Edition Label Art Series for Earth Day. This year they’ve teamed up with actress Nikki Reed and athletes Gabrielle Reece and Laird Hamilton, who designed their own label for Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($48, www.kiehls.com) with a little assistance from multi-disciplinary design boutique ilovedust. Proceeds from the collaboration, which is available Tuesday, April 12th, will support benefit Recycle Across America.

Good karma paired with a cult favorite? We say absolutely. Urban Decay Good Karma Brushes ($20 to $39 each, www.urbandecay.com) offer a variety of high performance, artist-quality, cruelty free, vegan and eco-friendly makeup brushes, and the collection comes in cute magnetic boxes that were created from recycled egg cartons. Another bonus? The super-soft synthetic brush hair doesn’t let bacteria adhere to it the way permeable animal hair does. And, the chic gunmetal brush handles are made from recycled aluminum.

Keep wrinkles at bay with goop Skincare Perfecting Eye Cream ($90, goop.com). The high performance age-defining line that was created by Gwyneth Paltrow combines opulent formulas with certified organic ingredients, like olive butter and sandalwood nut oil, that were sourced right from the ground.

For an immediate boost of hydration, look to Caudalie Intense Moisture Rescue Cream, ($39, caudalie.com) a smooth, deeply nourishing facial cream that can be used daily. All Caudalie formulas contain at least 92 percent natural ingredients like organic grape water, and for every Caudalie product purchased, the brand contributes to the protection of the environment via its “1 percent For the Planet” movement.

Luxury fragrance collection CLEAN Reserve ($90, www.sephora.com) embraces sustainable beauty. Its fragrances feature raw ingredients, like vanilla from ECOCERT plantations in Madagascar that are ethically harvested and manufactured, to achieve the lowest possible carbon footprint. The brand also gives back to their farmers, tribes and communities to sustain their crops and economies.

For a lighter daily moisturizer, try DECLEOR Anti-Pollution Hydrating Gel Cream ($67, www.decleorusa.com). Not only does the gel-cream formula provide anti-pollution protection and hydration, it also has a scent so refreshing you might even want to skip your daily perfume. Throughout April, DECLÉOR Paris will donate 25 percent of site-wide sales to Earth Day Initiative, who is dedicated to carrying the enthusiasm and spirit of Earth Day into the 21st Century to meet today’s environmental challenges.

Want to sip your way to a greener earth? Then stock up on The Dreaming Tree Wines ($14.99, www.dreamingtreewines.com), a collection of wines from world-renowned musician Dave Matthews and award winning Sonoma County winemaker, Sean McKenzie. The collection, which is available nationwide, is dedicated to sustainability. The bottle’s cork closure is natural and also recyclable. Its label is crafted with 100 percent recycled kraft brown paper and the actual wine bottles are a quarter pound lighter than the average wine bottle. And not only is the packaging eco-friendly, The Dreaming Tree Wines donates a portion of proceeds from every bottle sold to commendable environmental conservation organizations like the Wilderness Society and Living Lands & Waters.

We all want a summer glow and to skip the wrinkles, so protect yourself with Éminence Organic Skin Care Sun Defense Minerals ($58; buynaturalskincare.com). For every purchase of an Éminence Organic Skin Care product, the brand plants a tree through their Forests for the Future initiative, and so far, they’ve already planted 5 million trees.

All natural nutrients, better skin and longer hair, why not? As we patiently wait for our seasonal tan, we’re enhancing our beauty routine with Brock Beauty’s Hairfinity Hair Vitamins and Dermera Skin Vitamins, (www.brockbeauty.com) to ensure our locks lengthen quickly and we boost our radiance.

John Masters Organics SPF 30 Natural Mineral Sunscreen ($32, johnmasters.com) is an organic option that mixes titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for all-over coverage, as green tea, shea butter and jojoba oil extracts moisturize skin. From Friday, April 22nd through Monday, April 25th, John Masters Organics is offering 25 percent off the entire site with the code EARTH16.

  • Pitch Your Peers (PYP) Hamptons Chapter, a philanthropy initiative, awarded two local non-profits at its 3rd annual Pitch Day on October 25th at Scoville Hall in Amagansett. Philanthropic women from the community are the driving force behind PYP The Hamptons. They identify and champion local non-profits that qualify for its annual collective grant. The grant pool for 2025 was $60,000.

PYP Members identified and pitched local organizations to be considered for their grant on Pitch Day on October 25th. Members voted, and this year’s first-place award of $50,000 was presented to The Retreat, while a second-place award of $10,000 was presented to Share the Harvest Farm.

  • What began as a shared dream between two young farming apprentices has grown into a year-round nonprofit that feeds, teaches, and welcomes thousands of people each season. Today, co-founders Amanda Merrow and Katie Baldwin continue to nurture the land while carrying out their mission to educate and inspire through food and farming.

From securing ownership of their farmland to expanding their programs, opening a year-round market, and welcoming visitors to explore the property, Amber Waves has become an essential piece of the East End’s agricultural and cultural landscape. Amanda and Katie spoke about their journey, the mission that continues to guide them, and the vision behind one of the most meaningful community-driven farms on Long Island.

What core mission drives the farm today, and how has that mission evolved since the beginning?

Amanda & Katie: We met in 2008 while completing a farming apprenticeship at Quail Hill Farm where we both discovered our shared love of farming. By that July, we were already dreaming up ways to continue farming together in Amagansett. When we founded Amber Waves Farm, our vision was to build something greater than ourselves—something that would outlive us. Our original idea, the “Amagansett Wheat Project,” grew out of a daydream to create a “pizza farm,” and our name, Amber Waves, pays homage to grain production—a line from the song “America the Beautiful”. From the beginning, we chose to be a nonprofit because our mission—to teach and connect people through food and farming—has always been at the heart of what we do.

  • Philanthropist, TV host, author and longtime supporter and chairwoman of the Viennese Opera Ball Jean Shafiroff hosted and underwrote a reception with over 100 guests at her New York residence to officially kick off the 70th Annual Viennese Opera Ball, one of New York’s oldest and most prestigious white-tie galas celebrating Austrian culture, diplomacy, and the enduring friendship between Austria and the United States.

“The Viennese Opera Ball represents elegance, culture, and the timeless beauty of the arts,” said Jean Shafiroff. “It is a privilege to host this gathering in celebration of its 70th year as we honor tradition while supporting the next generation of artistic excellence. As a past honoree and chairwoman, I look forward to the 70th Anniversary Gala and am excited to chair it once again.”

  • On Saturday, December 13th, Heart of the Hamptons held its highly anticipated 22nd Annual Polar Bear Plunge at the famous Cooper’s Beach in Southampton. Nearly 300 participants cheered along with the countdown before plunging into the Atlantic Ocean.

Some sported Santa hats, Santa overalls, team shirts, and of course, this year’s iconic Polar Bear Plunge cap or beanie. The plunge drew a crowd of over 600 people and raised over $350,000.

Heart of the Hamptons’ Executive Director Molly Bishop said, “The feeling of support and togetherness was so appreciated by the staff and volunteers at HOH. We’ve had a challenging year adjusting to the increased need for our help, and knowing we have this type of support behind us means everything! Thank you to everyone who came out!”
