“@EastEndPopUps was started last October by me and Bella Ornaff of FIN Montauk,” explained Amanda Beckmann, a Montauk-based artist. “We created the Instagram account to get the word out about Pop Up Markets we were creating out here on the East End.”

The creators of the Instagram account met during a pop-up hosted by Scott Pitches at Out East Gallery in Montauk in December of 2014. “Once he closed shop we decided to create our own Holiday event last year,” noted Beckman. “27 different artists, makers and small businesses got together, over two Saturday’s, at the American Legion Hall in Amagansett, and it was a huge success!”

Since the holiday season is such a limited time-frame, the duo decided to focus on promoting “local small businesses, artists, musicians, makers, farmers and hustlers” year-round. “In the down time between events, I decided to use @eastendpopups as a community venue to promote the interesting culture and hard-working local residents of the East End,” added Beckmann. “Bella and I continue to participate in a variety of local pop up shops/events, farmers markets and craft fairs, as well as creating our own.”
Their next gathering, Xmas in July, will pay homage to the account’s seasonal inspiration. “Our next event is at The Maidstone Hotel on Tuesday, July 19th from 6 to 8 p.m.,” said Beckmann. “Tara Rothberg, the new GM at The Maidstone, has been hard at work creating interesting events in their beautiful garden, and she loved our theme Xmas in July.”
Whether you’re seriously on top of your holiday season giving, are in need of some birthday presents, or just love to shop, the event will offer a nice variety of goods from artbya, FIN Montauk, Hamptons Handpoured, bombelleNYC, Martine and Juan, James Katsipis, Peter Spacek, Scott Bluedorn and Whalebone. “The pop up features eight vendors including art, photography, jewelry, clothing, home goods and decor,” explained Beckmann. “We are celebrating the middle of the year, half way to The Holidays, with great gift ideas and The Maidstone will have drink specials at their bar!”
