Local Couple Launch Clothing Line Inspired By The East End

Megan Russell and Jason Russell have a lot to be excited about this year. The East End-based couple is not only expecting their first child later this year, but they also recently launched Montauk Surf Co., a clothing line inspired by the East End.

“Since Jay and I got together, we have spent every possible beautiful Monday (our only day off together) at the beach all day long,” explained Megan. “These beach days always end with us sitting around with our friends, watching the sunset and drinking beers.”

After years of dabbling with the clothing line idea, the Russells decided to go big and launch Montauk Surf Co. “For the last four years we have talked about starting our own clothing company and hashed out fun t-shirt design ideas with all of our buddies,” she noted. “This year we bit the bullet and decided to make the investment in our dream…and I guess we will see where it takes us!”

The couple set out to create a versatile line that commemorates their love for the outdoors. “The goal of this crazy adventure is to make quality apparel to reflect our passion for the sun, sand and surf,” she noted. “Designed by locals, made for the comfort of everyday life, created with love!”

The line offers something for all ages. “We currently have men’s and ladies logo tees and hoodies available on the website,” Megan shared. “Children’s tees will be available online in late July.”

As for why they singled out Montauk, the Hamptons hamlet has a special spot in their hearts for many reasons. “Montauk has always been our favorite place. It’s such an incredibly unique town, full of so much character and history and good energy,” Megan noted. “I’ve loved visiting Montauk since I was a little kid, and we were lucky enough to get married on the bluffs by the lighthouse and have our wedding reception at my dad’s house off East Lake Drive. We go there every single chance we get, and we felt so blessed to be able to name our company after something we are so passionate about.”

In addition to the online store, Montauk Surf Co. is available at the Montauk Flying Point Surf Shop location (33 The Plaza, Montauk), and will make a special appearance at the San Gennaro Feast of the Hamptons in Hampton Bays on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30.
