Hampton Classic Renaming Boutique Garden In Honor Of Longtime Board Member

The Hampton Classic Horse Show is honoring Agneta Currey this year by naming its famed Boutique Garden after the longtime Board member and former chairman.

After more than 35 years of service, Currey is retiring from the Classic’s Board of Directors. She will remain an Honorary Board Member. During her time with the Classic, Currey played a major role in the transformation of the Bridgehampton-based horse show’s physical appearance as a member of the Grounds and Decorations Committee. She also played a part in the formation of the Classic’s Equestrian Advisory Committee.

“Agneta has been a treasured asset to the Hampton Classic family for more than 35 years and we are delighted to name the Boutique Garden in her honor,” said Shanette Cohen, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic. “The pristine and immaculate look of the horse show grounds and vendor areas is due primarily to Agneta’s direction and personal involvement. We think the naming of the Boutique Garden in her honor is a most fitting way to ensure that she remains part of the Hampton Classic forever.”

Agneta and her husband, Brownlee, a longtime Board member of the U.S. Equestrian Team, USET Foundation and Show Jumping Hall of Fame, are also among the Classic’s longest standing sponsors. The Curreys have owned many triumphant hunters and jumpers. One of the most notable is Touch of Class, which they co-owned. Touch of Class earned Joe Fargis double Gold Medals at the 1984 Olympic Games.

For the Curreys, riding is a family affair. Agneta is a talented amateur hunter rider. Although she no longer competes, her daughters Stephanie Ingram and Frances Briggs, son-in-law John Ingram, daughter-in-law Kathryn Jennings Currey, and grand-daughters Virginia & Martha Ingram and Charlotte Currey show at the Classic, and her son, Christian, also competes.

The Agneta Currey Boutique Garden will welcome over 70 vendors who will display a magnificent array of items – including luxurious women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, jewelry, handbags, handmade shoes and boots, art, automobiles, real estate, antiques, home furnishings, furniture, equestrian apparel, horse saddles and tack, photography, and so much more.

The Hampton Classic Horse Show will take place August 26 through September 2.
