Hamptons.com columnist and WFAN sports commentator Ann Liguori scored quite a coup in securing the uber exclusive The Bridge as this year’s host club of her annual golf outing in support of the American Cancer Society on Monday, May 20th. Liguori’s charity tournament has been held at many of the East End’s most beautiful courses, including the prestigious and Hamptons iconic Maidstone Club for three of the last four years, Hamptons Hills Golf Club in 2005 and the Sebonack Golf Club two years ago, which will host the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open in June. Now in its 16th year the Ann Liguori Foundation was created in response to Ann’s lost of her father to cancer when she was in college and the lost of her brother to leukemia a year and a half later.
A departure from the historically classic cottage shingled Maidstone Club, Shinnecock Hills or Hampton Hills clubhouses, The Bridge clubhouse is unlike any in the Hamptons, a totally modernist glass and steel structure with four distinct angular pinnacles that sits on one of the highest points on the East End overlooking the course and the beautiful Peconic Bay. Designed by architect Roger Ferris as inspired by The Bridge majority owner, Robert Rubin, modern race car art and sculptures grace the clubhouse and classic advertising remnants like the winged horse logos of Chevron of the Bridgehampton Motor Racing Circuit adorn the course, as The Bridge G.C. was built upon the grounds of the auto race track that officially closed in 1998 to many a Hamptonian car enthusiast’s chagrin, but to the joy of many a Hamptonian environmentalist.
