Guild Hall will be presenting a wonderful select sample of the works of Jeff Muhs until Jan 2, 2022. Mr. Muhs is from Southampton, having been born on June 24, 1966. His father was a sculptor. Mr. Muhs mastered woodcarving at an early age and he is considered a “multidisciplinary artist” because he has created art in various mediums including sculpture and paintings, of which a fine selection will be on display during this showing at Guild Hall.

Mr. Muhs’ show is titled, “The Uncanny Valley.” Mr. Muhs has said that the sculpture in this show comes from a process he calls “Dynamic Free Casting.” He also has been quoted as saying that, “For me, The Uncanny Valley was the moment when I first saw the results of my concrete sculpture as flesh. What had previously been an exploration of more architectural forms, by manner of my process, presented itself as flesh-like. I have been participating in the Guild Hall Artist Members Exhibition for about 25 years. I see it as a great focal point for our creative community. An opportunity for camaraderie and to share our artistic expressions with one another. It is a great honor to have been chosen as the Top Honors recipient for my sculpture and to be awarded the opportunity to exhibit at this cultural institution, so rich in the history of our local artistic community and 20th-century art.”
A local favorite, Mr. Muhs has won many awards including 2018 Top Honors at the Guild Hall annual Artist Members exhibition. Mr. Muhs’ work, specifically his paintings, “…explore natural physical processes such as optics, chaos, gravity, and fluid dynamics.” Mr. Muhs is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts.
