LTV is the East End’s ONLY broadcast station. Under Executive Director Michael Clark’s direction, LTV is moving proactively to be among the arts and entertainment space with some high-caliber events this summer. These events are impressive, such as award-winning Native American fashion design, Jazz Piano Masters, and Cabaret artists. Then there is Playwright’s Theatre with up-and-coming playwrights and World Class Orchestra musicians.
Josh Gladstone is welcoming back cabaret to East Hampton by hosting a new concert series at LTV titled American Songbook Then and Now. Mr. Gladstone said, “LTV is a hidden resource bursting onto the scene with a dynamic, programmatic rebirth – one of the great treasures of the East End – and we’re available for more than just local broadcast coverage and public access channels that have served the East End dutifully for decades.”
Then he said, “We’re also a vibrant center for media, communications, and the arts. LTV is a meeting place to share ideas and enjoy one another’s company in the presence of performing artists who will lift our spirits and unite us in a shared experience of beauty, joy, and excellence. I can’t think of a more important, cherished mission for the vitality and goodwill of our community.”
Mr. Gladstone explained, “Michael Clark brought me on board at the start of 2023, and the first 6 months have been FUN! A vibrant energy simmering here in Wainscott under Michael’s vision, as supported by LTV’s community Board led by Jon Olken. The team is young and gung-ho, and the vibe is very can-do, cheerful, and playful. Being at LTV has renewed my excitement and delight in producing and delivering performing arts programs to East Hampton and building a place where artists from all disciplines and levels of experience feel welcome and encouraged.
Award-winning entertainer, Mark Nadler, is launching the first program on July 11. He said, “I always loved show tunes and standards, which I’d hear on TV shows like the Ed Sullivan Show and the Carol Burnett Show when I was growing up — and, of course, from movies. I was never interested in the rock music of my youth because these songs captured my imagination first. I was performing these songs by the time I was five years old, having started playing the piano before I was four. As I got older, Porter’s songs stood out to me because of the lyrics’ wit and the music’s utter sophistication. The older I got, the more deeply entrenched I became in the work of Porter and, eventually, in the stories from his life.
Mr. Nadler said he is a musical storyteller and takes pride in making people hear songs they’ve been hearing their whole lives in new ways “because I create arrangements and create musical environments that allow the lyrics to come forward.”
He said he is excited and proud that he has been chosen to inaugurate this thrilling series. He is impressed with the extraordinary line-up of performers doing this series! Nadler said, “I think the Hamptons needs a good cabaret series, and this is going to be great!”
