Art Market Hamptons will return to the Hamptons for the twelfth edition in August 2022. The premier art fair will be held August 11-14 in Water Mill. It will feature 85 top galleries, several of which are located on the East End, as well as Nova’s Ark Project & Sculpture Garden.
One of the artists in attendance this year is Mykola Khodorovsky of Mykola Fine Art, a multi-talented painter, who has traveled from Florida for the anticipated event in the Hamptons. He spoke more about his artwork, his influences, and what those in attendance can expect from Art Market Hamptons beginning this Thursday!
How did you get your start with painting and what were your earliest influences?
MK: I was born in Ukraine in 1969. I never planned to become an artist but throughout my life I have had hobbies of photography and diving. I used to make thousands of underwater pictures traveling all over the world and even issued a book about diving in Egypt. I managed a large wholesale company in Ukraine, and in 2011 I took a vacation and spent the winter in Miami. I liked it so much, so I decided to move there. I could not stop taking pictures of the beautiful nature surrounding me. In 2014 I met my future wife, Mila. She insisted on me going to Professional School of Photography where I graduated in 2015. Then she proposed to print my pictures on large canvases—that looked awesome. Later we tried aluminum prints, and this was even better. Mila said, why don’t we sell it? And so, we started to participate in art shows. I was very surprised when we sold the first piece. I was so happy. The city where I live, Sunny Isles Beach, FL, honored me 5 times as the best photographer and put my pictures on the cover of magazines and calendars. Anyway, I was running out of money and photography could not feed us. One day Mila started to paint with blue acrylics, and she tried to copy my underwater picture. I joined her. This was exciting! Later I tried to paint myself, and since that moment I haven’t stopped.
How would you describe your style?
MK: I paint American flags and ocean inspired abstract acrylic pieces on handcrafted wooden panels in golden frames. All of my artworks are covered with epoxy resin and sometimes I mix epoxy, acrylics, and other solutions. Golden frame is my signature, like a red sole on the designer’s shoes.
Is your art a form of self-expression?
MK: Painting is my life. I wake in the morning and go to bed thinking of my next artwork. I put my soul in every piece that I create.
What does the future hold for your career as an artist?
MK: My dream is to open my own gallery dedicated to my American Flags Collection.
What are you most looking forward to about the collaboration with Art Market Hamptons and what can those in attendance expect?
MK: At the Art Market Hamptons my works will be presented by Kedria Arts, another fantastic artist of Ukraine origin who creates unique glittering crystal sculptures recreating the shape of the most charming animals. I’m proud to be in such a team of creators and managers to present our art to the Hamptons society!
