After going through the long process of securing funding for the dredging of Accabonac Harbor Legislator Jay Schneiderman, accompanied by East Hampton Trustee Diane McNally, visited Louse Point on Friday, January 4, 2013, to witness the start of its construction.
Legislator Schneiderman, chair of the Public Works Committee, has successfully secured funding for three dredging projects in the Town of East Hampton over the past two years.
“I am pleased to have worked with the East Hampton Town Trustees on this project, which will open up the navigable channel at Accabonac Harbor,” said Schneiderman. “I am looking forward to a safe boating season”.
The dredging of Accabonac Harbor, performed by Gibson & Cushman Contracting Inc., will continue around the clock until January 15. At a price of $1.4 million, this will open the channel as well as the inlet, moving approximately 25,000 cubic yards of material from the inlet onto the beach.
“Accabonac Harbor has been gradually filling in with sand,” said East Hampton Town Councilman Dominic Stanzione. “Now, thanks to Jay’s hard work, boaters will be able to navigate safely.”
