The Island Gift of Life Foundation was founded by Cheryl Hannabury, who had battled Non-Hodgkins Lympoma for many years before succumbing to the disease. The Shelter Island resident envisioned an organization that aided families battling cancer with expenses that weren’t covered by insurance – such as travel and lodging. She also wanted to raise awareness for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and the importance of the bone-marrow donor registry. The Island Gift of Life Foundation’s initial blood /bone marrow drive was tremendously successful, adding 100 people to the registry, and throughout the years, Island Gift of Life’s mission has continued to grow well beyond the wishes of Cheryl’s dream.
“The financial assistance that Gift of Life Foundation has afforded me has made the difference between me receiving treatment and not getting the care I needed,” shared one Island Gift of Life Foundation client on the organization’s website. “It is heartwarming to know that someone out there truly cares enough to lend a hand.”
