“Live From SAC” Returning With “Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE” Benefit

Southampton Arts Center (SAC) is kicking off its 2018 programming with a bang.

On Saturday, February 3, SAC will team up with The Jam Session for a very special iteration of Live from SAC, Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE.

“Jazz is an eclectic gumbo of world cultures born in the giant melting pot of the United States,” explained Claes Brondal of The Jam Session, who curates the series. “This style of music is truly timeless, continuously evolving and appealing to kids of all ages.”

Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE will feature an all-star lineup and proceeds from the spectacular musical affair will support the Jazz Foundation of America’s KEYED UP! program, which focuses on creating playing opportunities for musicians.

“We can’t think of a better way to begin our 2018 season than with long-standing partners, The Jam Session,” reflected Amy Kirwin, Southampton Arts Center Director of Programs. “We have been working with them for nearly two years with great success, and they continue to provide the highest level of talent at every monthly concert. To be able to benefit Keyed Up! as well at this premiere concert is an added bonus for all of us.”

The evening will commemorate live Jazz, as well as the musicians who have helped earn the genre the title of “America’s classical music.” The big-band experience will bring together Ray Anderson (on trombone), Claire Daly (on baritone saxophone), Jay Rodriguez on (tenor saxophone), Morris Goldberg on (alto saxophone), Diego Urcola on (trumpet), Santi Debriano on (bass), Bill O’Connell on (piano), and Brondal on (drums).

“Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE will shine a bright light on Jazz and showcase world-class musicians in their natural environment – before a live audience!” Brondal said.

WPPB’s Ed German and Brian Cosgrove will host this unmissable Live from SAC, which will be recorded for rebroadcast on local NPR Member station WPPB.

The Jazz Foundation is dedicated to aiding jazz and blues musicians through financial, medical, housing, and legal assistance, and presenting performance opportunities. The organization, which was founded 26 years ago, typically helps over 5,000 cases a year.

“Keyed Up! and Southampton Arts Center are promoters and custodians of Jazz. This benefit will help these organizations bridge the financial gap and provide a quality venue in the East End community.” added Brondal. “Get ready for an unprecedented musical event during midst of the dark of winter. It’s the first benefit of the 2018 season!”

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Prior to the performance attendees will be treated to complimentary food and sips courtesy of Bay Burger and Union Cantina.

Admission is $40.
