Long Island-Based Animal Rescue Hosting Celebration In Honor Of 10th Anniversary

Last Chance Animal Rescue (LCAR) will celebrate a monumental occasion – its 10th anniversary – on Sunday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Osprey’s Dominion Winery in Peconic.

“This annual event is a wonderful way for us to connect with our adopters and alumni to see in person the impact we have made on the animals saved and their families,” reflected Whitney Knowlton, Last Chance Animal Rescue Founder. “This year is very special as we mark our 10th year in rescue and over 10k animals placed in loving homes.”

Based out of Long Island, the nonprofit organization focuses on rescuing and covering the costs of relocating animals in kill shelters to no kill shelters or foster homes until they can find their forever home.

The organization also partners with vets to provide spay/neuter services and other medical services. The funds largely come from the continuing, generous donations from the community.

Since it was established in 2008, the program has rescued over 10,000 dogs and cats.

“When we started it would have been hard to imagine marking this milestone,” Knowlton noted.

Last Chance Animal Rescue works mainly with rural shelters who are underfunded by local legislature, have a lack of resources, and have limited chances for adoption. LCAR rescues animals regardless of age, breed, or general health, trying to save as many as possible.

Those that are rescued spend time in a quarantine facility and after a vetting process of vaccinating, worming and spay/neutering, they are brought to the Northeast to find their forever homes.

The Last Chance Animal Rescue 10th Anniversary Celebration is an opportunity to commemorate past accomplishments while looking to the future, raising money for the rescue organization and their efforts. The Celebration will include a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese raffle, entertainment, food, refreshments, activities for kids and wine specials.

“I am proud of all we have accomplished and grateful to our amazing community of fosters, volunteers, adopters, donors, sponsors and supporters who have made it possible,” Knowlton added.
