Nona Hendryx And Vernon Reid Headlining Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Rock For Our Rights In The Hamptons Concert

Rock for Our Rights in the Hamptons, a special Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) benefit concert, will take over Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor on Friday, September 28. The evening will be headlined by Nona Hendryx (Labelle) and Vernon Reid (Living Colour) and Friends – with the Zach Zunis Band opening the evening.

The benefit concert is the brainchild of 16-year-old Brontë Zunis, a passionate supporter of Planned Parenthood.

“Allowing people to feel safe and taken care of without fear of discrimination due to their race or ethnic background, sexual orientation, religion, gender, or HIV status is something that Planned Parenthood is fighting tirelessly for,” Zunis reflected. “My motivation for creating this event stems from my first-hand experience with the lack of sensitive health education in so many schools across Long Island.”

Proceeds from Rock for Our Rights in the Hamptons will support PPHP’s health care services, education programs, and advocacy efforts throughout the East End. PPHP offers reproductive and sexual health care at ten health centers located in Suffolk, Westchester, and Rockland counties. Last year alone, the organization assisted nearly 32,000 patients during over 54,000 visits.

“My primary goal is to educate Gen Z on the importance of non-discriminatory health care and reproductive care, especially when so many are newly registered voters,” Zunis noted. “I am proud to work with Planned Parenthood in a widespread effort to stand together as one united front, no matter our age, in order to protect and advance the rights that we have come too far to lose.”

In 2017, PPHP’s education and training programs reached 23,000 people, while their Call Center answered 144,000 calls. Those that visit PPHP health centers receive nonjudgmental, affordable quality care. Services PPHP offers include lifesaving cancer screenings, birth control, prevention, testing, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, breast health services, Pap tests, information, and health counseling.

In addition to the exceptional concert, the evening will also include a benefit auction curated by Pamela Willoughby. The auction will showcase works from over 20 artists and in partnership with Paddle8 will be available to bidders worldwide through Friday, September 28. Participating artists include Linda K. Alpern, Marissa Bridge, Cyril Christo and Marie Wilkinson, Noel DeLesseps, DELTA 2, Robert Otto Epstein, Eric Fischl, Dora Frost, April Gornik, Tara Israel, Martine Langatta, Matt Magee, Steve Miller, Christine Newman, Dalton Portells, Sarah Prescott, Mason Saltarrelli, Bastienne Schmidt, Blair Seagram, Nathan Slate Joseph, Agathe Snow, Cynthia Talmadge, and Athos Zacharias.

Danny Kapilian will serve as Rock for Our Rights in the Hamptons’ music producer with Nitchie Zunis as event coordinator.

The honorary host committee includes Kathleen Cullen, Jonathan Drew Art, April Gornik and Eric Fischl, Laura Grenning, Andrea Grover, Michael Halsband, Donna Karan, Gabby Karan de Felice, Julie Keyes and Nathan Slate Joseph, Johan Kugelberg and Lisa Wolfe, Shannah Laurmeister Stern, Dorothy Lichtenstein, Ellie Rines, Deborah Ripley, Edwina Von Gal, and Pamela Willoughby.

Rock for Our Rights in the Hamptons will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $75 to $250. A pre-concert reception and art auction will be held at Tutto il Giorno from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for those that purchase the $250 ticket.
