A wine company that makes wines in five different countries? “Owner Jason Woodbridge is an interesting character,” Southampton Animal Shelter EVP Clifton Knight told Hamptons.com at the SASF Wine Tasting and Hors d’oeuvres Memorial Day weekend event. “Pass the Layer Cake Cabernet,” was our response. Knight, the sommelier for the evening, had picked “accessible” labels. “Most of these are house wines in better restaurants,” he said.
Accessibility was the unofficial leit motif of the evening. These types of fundraisers are a way to keep the community involved in the shelter, just as the shelter serves the community, Jean Shafiroff explained. She’ll once again chair their 6th Annual Unconditional Love Dinner Dance held on Saturday, July 18th.

Shelter supporters Susan Allen, Jonathan McCann, Jean Shafiroff, Wendy Wegner, Pat Grey, Randi Schatz, Victor de Souza, Gina Martini and too many volunteers to mention sipped and nibbled. Southampton Mayor Mark Epley and wife Mary Ann, Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, Councilmen Stan Glinka and Brad Bender were among the town officials to show support. Katie McEntee, Elizabeth Shafiroff, and Lindsey Spielfogel were Junior Committee members. We also spied Rachel Oatman, whose anthropomorphic animal portraits has graced the homes of Princess Caroline of Monaco, Billy Joel, Valentino and Jean Paul Gaultier. Her “Dog-A-Porter” exhibit, of dogs wearing contemporary fashion, has been shown in Paris, Monte Carlo, Milano, Venice, Aspen, Newport RI, Miami, LA, New York among other locations.
The Ludmilla Brazil Trio provided Bossa Nova rhythms.
