Eat, drink, cure cancer: the Annual Hamptons Happening benefiting the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) is relaxed, upscale and very, shall we say, hunger fulfilling. Circling the tent of tastings from local and NYC celebrated chefs and restaurants on the grounds of hosts Maria and Kenneth Fishel’s 15 acre property, we sample and stuff. Then comes dessert.

It’s all to fund Waxman’s unique efforts to identify pathways and create drugs to eradicate abnormal gene functions that cause cancer. It all began with a grateful father, when Waxman cured his son. “You should have your own charity,” he told Sam and gave it to him, in 1976. Today, collaboration is key. “We’ve formed partnerships with companies here and in China and with other foundations,” Waxman told the room. “And all the money we raise tonight will go to answer the question, why is cancer a disease of aging? It’s not for me, it’s for my grandson over there and for each generation, to give to them.”
CBS 2 News anchor Chris Wragge emceed. Chef Matt Lambert, Executive Chef & Co-owner of The Musket Room, Michelin Star Recipient; Ramy Brook Sharp, Founder & Creative Director of Ramy Brook; and Joe Farrell, Founder & President of Farrell Building Company, were honored.

Committee members included Chris Arlotta, Ellen Antonucci, Jordan Brail, Maria Fishel, Barbara Lambert, Jessica Mackin, Laurie Schaffran, Jake Taub, and Erin Woudsma.
