So many of us have been coming to the Hamptons since we were kids. Years ago, it was Trout Pond, Long Beach, Coopers Beach, Main Beach, or Sagg Main, a BBQ with the neighbors and softball under the lights at Mashashimuet Park. Lately, I’ve noticed there is a new generation that appears to be more visible, more vibrant, and ready to enjoy our community. It’s refreshing to see that CP Complete clients have been getting much younger; as I’ve been getting just a little bit older.
A recent BuilderOnline.com survey supports what seems to be a contradiction of our times, “Even in the age of the smartphone and TV show binge watching, the love affair with the American yard is not over. Americans think it is important to have a yard, keep it looking well-maintained and live in an area with nice landscaping. Despite the perception that the younger generation is only focused on a high-tech lifestyle, nearly three quarters (74%) of Millennials (18-34 year olds) think spending time outside in their yards is important.” The trend toward enjoying outdoor living space is especially true in the beautiful area we are fortunate enough to call home. And, the focus of their recreation activity can often be found in their own backyard.
Much of the planning and design of outdoor living space revolves around physical activity. Construction of tennis courts, basketball courts, swimming pools, spas, and open areas have become more popular for Hamptons homeowners in recent years. Soccer moms and soccer dads ask landscape designers for a rebuild of their backyard with sports and family in the forefront of their request.

A Pinterest search for “Turn the backyard into your favorite summer destination” showcases pictures and ideas that inspire and motivate. Pembrooke has clients that have turned the simple notion of adding a basketball court that grew into the complete renovation of their outdoor living space.
Almost every day I receive emails from Conde Nast, Traveler Magazine, Marriot Vacation Club, and others that try to entice me with amazing pictures and offers to travel to incredible summer destinations. Where to travel this summer? It has become more and more likely that the number one destination is your own Hamptons home with family and friends always close to you.
