Real Estate Website Deems Sagaponack Most Expensive ZIP Code In The U.S.

Even though it saw a 35 percent drop in median sale prices, 11962 (A.K.A. Sagaponack) has once again taken home the title of most expensive ZIP code in the U.S., according to www.propertyshark.com. Sagaponack, which has a median sale price of $5,500,000, edged out Atherton, CA, whose median sale price is $5,425,000, for the impressive honor.

“The Hamptons and New York are fairly regularly at the top of these lists,” noted Nancy Jorisch, Data Research Manager at Property Shark. “Sagaponack has been at the top last year and this year.”

The list is based strictly on sales data, which is why 33462 (A.K.A. Manalapan, FL) – Forbes’ most expensive ZIP code – doesn’t even make the top 1,000. “Our rankings have been based on the actual sales price, while others may be looking at listing prices too,” she explained. “I think the point really is the number of properties that have been in the Hamptons and consistently there as the very top ZIP codes based on sales prices – not just what’s been listed, not how long it’s been listed for, but the actual transactions.”

“The bottom line is that these top, even 100 ZIP codes, are very expensive neighborhoods and primarily on the East and West Coast, which is fascinating,” she shared. “In fact, I think out of the top 100, over 20 are in the State of New York.”

Several other East End ZIP codes also broke the top 100. Water Mill’s $2,600,000 median sale price earned 11976 the 16th spot. Wainscott (11975) took the 17 spot with a $2,510,000 median sale price. Shelter Island Heights (11965) made the list at 36 with a $1,900,000 median sale price. Amagansett (11930) came in at 50 with a $1,700,000 median sale price. Quogue’s $1,516,620 median sale price earned 11959 the 66th spot and the final honoree was Bridgehampton (11932), which came in at 79 thanks to its $1,462,500 median sale price.

“The East End is well represented at the top of the most expensive ZIP codes of the country,” Jorisch added.
