It was a party in paradise with DJ Cassidy, Shaggy, Wyclef Jean & Malibu Rum celebrating their hit song of summer, “If You Like Pina Coladas,” over Labor Day Weekend at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, one of the Hamptons’ hautest haunts.
What could be a more iconic Hamptons Summer send-off than Shaggy & Wyclef, Pina Coladas, and the Surf Lodge in Montauk? Just based on the who-what-where-when-why’s, anyone with half a brain knows this party was a certified vibe.
The Surf Lodge performance welcomed special guest Wyclef Jean to the stage to complement Shaggy’s unmistakably iconic voice. Shaggy and Wyclef are both Hamptons regulars and know exactly what the crowd is looking for. With Wyclef at centerstage, Cassidy took the mic and some DJ-ing to the packed crowd of smiling faces.
The remake is fun and upbeat and, smartly omits disparaging Yoga (we love Yoga in the Hamptons!) Originally released on National Pina Colada Day (I’m not sure I’m going to call it a holiday), the song is a great Summer anthem. Especially in light of the loss of the legendary original songwriter, Jimmy Buffett, the remake made for a memorable homage.
