Parrish Art Museum To Present Vol. 18 Of PechaKucha Night Hamptons

PechaKucha, the global, rapid-fire presentation series, will return to the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill for its 18th edition on Friday, December 9th at 6 p.m.

“PechaKucha Night Hamptons at the Parrish is hugely popular because it reveals the incredible creative wealth of the East End and how it reverberates beyond this region,” said Corinne Erni, Curator of Special Projects. “It is also a great opportunity for presenters and audiences to establish new relationships and find out about local resources that they didn’t know about.”

Ten presenters will have the opportunity to discuss living creatively on the East End during this edition of PechaKucha Night Hamptons. Each speaker will present 20 slides and have 20 seconds to discuss each slide.

Presenters will include the Museum’s recently appointed Deputy Director, Chris Siefert, as well as flight instructor Peter Boody, artists Peter Dayton and Melinda Hackett, photographer Bryan Downey, choreographer and educator Debra McCall, author Maureen Sherry, community organizer Lisa Votino, OLA Executive Director Minerva Perez, and architect Lee H. Skolnick.

Peter Boody is a regular contributor to several East End publications. Boody, who began flying in 1967 and took his first solo flight at 16-years-old, is a flight instructor at East Hampton Airport for Sound Aircraft Services.

Artist Peter Dayton is known for his flower collages and humorous surfboard paintings.

Liverpool native Bryan Downey moved to the United States in 1986. Since then, his photographs have appeared in major publications and he has also worked on award winning movies.

Painter Melinda Hackett’s work has been described as “organic, biomorphic pop.”

Debra McCall is a choreographer, dance historian, teacher and Director of Teacher Certification at Ross School. This year, she was awarded NEA and NEH grants, which she used to work with war refugees on the Greece-Macedonia border and research dance at Nataraj Temple, India.

Maureen Sherry is the author of the national bestseller Opening Belle. In the novel, the former Wall Street executive gives a witty working woman’s perspective on how to balance love, ambition, and family.

Chris Siefert joined the Parrish Art Museum as Deputy Director this past July. He has a BS in landscape architecture from Cornell University and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. During his time at Carnegie Mellon, Siefert was awarded a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship in Visual Arts. Siefert’s resume includes working as a landscape architect at Cesar Pelli and Associates and Balmori Associates, teaching sculpture at Louisiana State University and serving as project manager, director of exhibits, and ultimately deputy director at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

Lee H. Skolnick founded Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership, where he serves as the Lead Designer. The Manhattan-based internationally renowned firm fuses architecture, exhibition design, and education and synthesizes art, science, and architecture.

Admission to PechaKucha Night Hamptons, Vol. 18 is $10, and free for members, children and students. The event is currently sold out, but an in person wait list begins an hour prior to PechaKucha Night.
