The 9th annual Memorial Day Weekend Show, presented by the Montauk Artists’ Association, will return to the Village Green in downtown Montauk on Friday, May 26 and remain on display through Sunday, May 28. The art show will feature masterpieces in a myriad of forms including original, handmade art by artisans that reside worldwide. Through their extraordinary vision, talent, and skills, the artisans weave a tapestry of art from creations in painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, glass, and ceramics to mixed media, woodworking, and more.

“There is the opportunity to see a diversity of art deriving from different styles and artistic visions from the various artisans not only from around the country, also from overseas that participate in this event,” said Ron Mellot of Montauk Artists’ Association. “No two artists see the same, nor create in the same way. Even within a given medium, say jewelry, the different materials and designs are wondrous and breathtaking.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak personally with the artists that create all of the works to learn how they came to their art form, what they’re inspired by, what materials were used, and more. On the off chance that attendees do not find exactly what they’re looking for, they also have the option to commission a piece of art made specifically for them.
“Visitors have a rare chance to learn how the artists became artists and make their work. This knowledge adds immeasurably to your purchase and what you will enjoy for years or decades to come,” said Mellot.
Over 50 artist and artisans will be represented at the 9th annual Memorial Day Weekend Show.

“Lastly, there is a great unknown and beautiful aspect of how each of us respond to art. There is no universally accepted definition of what art is, nor is the response of people at all universal to art. Our reactions are often completely unanticipated even to us. A uniquely moving and personal experience,” remarked Mellot. “To stand in front of a painting, sculpture, piece of glass, jewelry or ceramics and just be speechless, in awe of the beauty, feeling, thoughts and emotions welling up inside of us–beautiful and priceless. These feelings and emotions also will always be with you. That is why the concept that art enriches our lives. It does.”
The 9th annual Memorial Day Weekend Show will be on display on Friday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
