Five Hamptons Winter Camp Options To Enrich And Entertain All Ages

Still wondering what your little ones will do to keep busy over winter break? Here are five enriching yet entertaining Hamptons camp options.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts (1 Bay Street, Sag Harbor, www.baystreet.org) is presenting Mighty Myth and Legends! A Musical Performance Camp, led by Allen O’Reilly, Bay Street’s new Director of Education and Community Outreach, and Bethany Dellapolla. Taking place from Monday, February 18 through Friday, February 22, the classes will be split into two sessions, one for ages 7-years-old to 12-years-old and another for ages 13-years-old to 18-years-old. The daily classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will work on a musical inspired by their life stories that also incorporates beloved classic myths and fairy tales. On the workshop’s final day, thespians will showcase what they’ve been working on during a performance for friends and family. “This is the first year we are offering two age groups for the February camp,” O’Reilly noted. “It’s part of our expanding theater education plans for 2019.”

Parrish Art Museum (279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, parrishart.org) is offering two Winter Vacation Art Workshops, one for children 5-years-old and 6-years-old (from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), and another for children 7-years-old and older (from 1 to 3 p.m.). Each day will offer a different theme. Monday, February 18 will revolve around Assemblage Wood Sculpture, Tuesday, February 19 will feature Winter Landscape with tempera paint, Wednesday, February 20 will highlight Model Magic animals, Thursday, February 21 will focus on Abstract Painting with tempera paint, and Friday, February 22 will delve into Watercolor portraits of family.

If your little one is wild for wildlife, plan on having them attend Quogue Wildlife Refuge’s Winter Wildlife Camp (3 Old Country Road, Quogue, quoguewildliferefuge.org) from Tuesday, February 19 through Friday February 22. The experience will offer daily hikes, crafts, and the chance to meet the animals that reside at the Refuge. The program, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, is recommended for children ages 5-years-old to 11-years-old.

Another option for those that love nature is the Winter School Recess Programs at the South Fork Natural History Museum (377 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike, Bridgehampton, sofo.org) with SOFO Museum Environmental Educators. The programming will feature Sleepy Spiders-Nature Exploration with Miles Tuesday, February 19, Evergreens in Winter-Nature Walk with Melanie on Wednesday, February 20, Birds of Vineyard Field-Nature Walk with Xylia on Thursday, February 21, and Tracks and Scat-Nature Exploration with Taylor on Friday, February 22. The programs are suitable for children of all ages and will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children’s Museum of the East End (376 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, Bridgehampton, www.cmee.org) and Hamptons Chess are hosting a Chess Camp for Beginners. Taking place Wednesday, February 20 through Friday, February 22, from 1 to 2 p.m., instructor Ulysses Tapley will go over the basics of chess and attendees will have the chance to take on players of different skill levels. The classes are recommended for those in grades 1 to 3.
