Hamptons International Film Festival Commemorating 25th Anniversary With “25 Years: 25 Films” Series

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the beloved Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF). In honor of this impressive milestone, HIFF has decided to take a look back at some of its most adored picks with 25 Years: 25 Films – a special screening series that will highlight one film from each year of the festival. Viewing will be held in The Hamptons, Palm Beach, New York City, and Los Angeles, and culminate with one final cinematic experience just before this year’s festival that will include the presentation of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

“We thought this would be a great opportunity to bring some of the best films of the last 25 years to moviegoers around the country,” shared HIFF Executive Director Anne Chaisson. “While our hearts are in the Hamptons, our mission is to share great narratives and documentaries with our film-loving supporters everywhere.”

25 Years: 25 Films will premiere on Friday, February 17th at Guild Hall in East Hampton – one of the festival’s hotspots – with The Piano, which screened during HIFF 1993. The following week, the series will hit the road for a screening of Black Swan (HIFF 2010) in sunny Palm Beach, Florida.

In addition to bringing these fantastic films back to the big screen, many of the screenings will include exclusive conversations with special guests, such as filmmakers and very notable film industry veterans.

“The festival has seen 24 years of unforgettable films from both first-time directors, as well as recognized masters,” said HIFF Artistic Director David Nugent. “To look back on the works that made the festival so enticing is to recognize a quarter-century of incredible cinema.”

Last year alone, films that were part of the 2016 HIFF received a record-breaking 45 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture nominees – La La Land, Lion, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight.

Winter screenings will include The Piano (1993) in the Hamptons, Black Swan (2010), presented by The Norton Museum of Art and The Breakers Palm Beach, in Palm Beach, I Am Not Your Negro (2016) in the Hamptons, Winter Guest (1997) in the Hamptons, and Gray’s Anatomy (1996) in the Hamptons.

Spring viewings will showcase The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg (1998) in the Hamptons, Heavenly Creatures (1994) in New York City, Judy Berlin (1999) in the Hamptons, Nowhere in Africa (2002) in the Hamptons, Kinsey (2004) in the Hamptons, No Man’s Land (2001) in the Hamptons, Still Alice (2014) in the Hamptons, and Last Summer in the Hamptons (1995) in the Hamptons.

Summer screenings will feature Searching for Sugarman (2012) in New York City, 20 Feet from Stardom (2013) in Los Angeles, The Cove (2009) in the Hamptons, Embrace of the Serpent (2015) in the Hamptons, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) in New York City, Slumdog Millionaire (2008) in the Hamptons, Boynton Beach Club (2005) in the Hamptons, The Fountain (2006) in the Hamptons, Open Water (2003) in the Hamptons, The Artist (2011) in the Hamptons, and Pollock (2000) in the Hamptons.

The 25th annual Hamptons International Film Festival will return over Columbus Day Weekend.
