Hamptons Galleries Given The Chance To Shine During Thanksgiving Saturday ArtWalk

“Thanksgiving Saturday ArtWalk is born out of the enthusiasm of the season itself,” shared Kathy Zeiger. “Many of us celebrate family and friends and we look forward to things to do to bring us together.”

Once again, the holiday weekend will offer art lovers the opportunity to take free self-guided art walks, artist-led art tours and attend art events at galleries spanning from Montauk to Southampton, as part of the 4th annual Thanksgiving Saturday Artwalk. On Saturday, November 28th from 1 to 4 p.m., over 20 East End galleries will open their doors for the special seasonal gathering. “Artists and their art have dotted the landscape since the late 19th century -it is only natural as Thanksgiving brings family and friends together – a Hamptons- wide art walk can accomplish this as well,” explained Zeiger. “It’s festive and art is a mainstay of our economy.”

In Bridgehampton, participating galleries include Chase Edwards Fine Art (2462 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, 631-604-2204, www.chaseedwardsgallery.com), Kathryn Markel Fine Arts (2418 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, 631-613-6386, www.markelfinearts.com), Mark Borghi Fine Art (2426 Main Street, Bridgehampton, 631-537-7245, borghi.org), Silas Marder Gallery (120 Snake Hollow Road, Bridgehampton, 631-702-2306, www.silasmarder.com), which is hosting the opening reception for Mica Marder from 4 to 8 p.m., and The White Room Gallery (2415 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, www.thewhiteroom.gallery).

If you’re in Amagansett, stop by Ille Arts (216a Main Street, Amagansett, 631-905-9894, illearts.com), and then make your way to East Hampton, where you can visit Eric Firestone Gallery (4 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-604-2386, www.ericfirestonegallery.com), Gallery Valentine (33 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-329-3100, www.galleryvalentine.com), Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art (87 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-324-0149, www.tripoligallery.com), Halsey McKay Gallery (79 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-604-5770, www.halseymckay.com), Lawrence Fine Art (37 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 516-547-8965, www.lawrence-fine-arts.com), Harper’s Books | Rare Book Gallery (87 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-324-1131, www.harpersbooks.com), Vered Art Gallery (68 Park Place, East Hampton, 631-324-3303, www.veredart.com), Wallace Gallery (37 Main Street, East Hampton, 631-329-4516), and Solar Gallery (44 Davids Lane, East Hampton, 631-907-8422, artsolar.com).

“Dinghies, Long Beach” by Christian White is part of Grenning Gallery’s Gems exhibit.

The sole Montauk participant is The Woodbine Collection (649 Montauk Highway, Montauk, 631-238-5338, www.woodbinecollection.com).

In Sag Harbor, drop by Grenning Gallery (17 Washington Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-8469, www.grenninggallery.com), Monika Olko Gallery (95 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-899-4740, www.monikaolkogallery.com), RJD Gallery (90 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-1161, rjdgallery.com), Romany Kramoris Gallery (41 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-2499, kramorisgallery.com), Surfari Crossroads (16 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-899-4677, urfaricrossroads.com), Tulla Booth Gallery (66 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-3100, www.tullaboothgallery.com), and Addō Sag Harbor featuring artist Timothy Atticus with Vernacular Etc. (7 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-919-5239, www.addosagharbor.com).

The three Southampton featured galleries include Arthur T. Kalaher Fine Art (28 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-204-0383, arthurtkalaherfineart.com), Peter Marcelle Project (4 North Main Street, Southampton, 631-613-6170, www.petermarcelleproject.com), and Tripoli Art Gallery of Contemporary Art (30A Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-377-3715, www.tripoligallery.com).

And don’t forget about Water Mill, where the Sara Nightingale Gallery (688 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, 631-793-2256, saranightingale.com) will host a Hot Cider and Wine reception from 1 to 4 p.m.

The annual event is the perfect kickoff to the holiday season for the local galleries. “Shopping is a big incentive – black Friday & small business Saturday [as sponsored by American Express],” noted Zeiger. “As the season continues to extend into later autumn months, an opportunity appeared to focus on the small business of owning and operating an art gallery.” And, for the first time, Artwalk attendees can join in on the community campaign to raise awareness and help stock East Hampton, Sag Harbor and Southampton food pantries prior to the start of winter by bringing a donation to select galleries. For a list of which galleries are accepting donations, visit www.zeigerarts.com.

  • Sant Ambroeus has become one of the East End’s most beloved dining destinations. The place has style, serves gelato and espresso all day, offers inviting outdoor seating, and delivers a world-class dining experience.

Their fresh pasta is made with eggs, and doesn’t weigh you down like other pasta does. The signature branzino dish has become a calling card for the Southampton location.

No visit is complete without a stop at the gelato counter, where handcrafted gelato and sorbetto are churned in-house, offering a cool, classic finish to a summer meal.

You’ll see me there again sipping an espresso and pretending to be Italian. Diet starts tomorrow.
  • Ralph’s Coffee is popping up at Mulford Farm for the summer season. Stop by from 8am - 5pm for specialty drinks, pastries, outdoor seating, and lawn games until September 7th.
