The exhibit will run from Thursday, September 22nd through Sunday, October 9th. East End Duets was inspired by a surgery that Will Ryan, one of the featured artists and musicians, underwent on February 25, 2015. Ryan received a stem cell transplant for a very rare blood disease called Amyloidosis, a form of cancer that creates malformed protein cells in the bone marrow that are carried in blood plasma and can collect in any organ. The overtaking of the cancer can result in the organ eventually shutting down.
Ryan received an outpouring of care, concern, and compassion throughout his recovery. He wanted to put together an event where he could express his gratitude and joy for a second chance at life.
“I am honored to say that everyone I approached to collaborate with me agreed without hesitation. I had done some collaborations before and had wanted to do something like this for some time,” Ryan reflected. “But, now I had a driving passion to make it happen and it is all coming together.”
The East End Duets performance on September 24th is a chance to enjoy beautiful music and art, as well as reflect on how sacred life truly is. The featured artists will be donating a percent of the proceeds to the lifesaving adult bone marrow transplant program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, NY.
