The Art Barge Sailing Into Fall With Community Exhibit

The Art Barge, eastern Long Island’s summer art school – also known as The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art, is ready to celebrate another season of successful creations. 2016 brought studio painting, watercolor, photography, ceramic, art + science classes and many more to the Amagansett-based Barge.

On Saturday, September 24th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, September 25th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., artists, friends and faculty of the art school will be showcasing their artwork in an Art Sail exhibition.

“The Art Sail is a great way for artists to share their artwork with the public in one of the most unique settings for an exhibition,” noted Michael Rosch, The Art Barge trustee and instructor. “There’s something for everyone at The Art Barge.”

In 1960, Victor D’Amico – along with help from local baymen – anchored a retired World War I Navy Barge in Napeague Harbor, which he turned into The Art Barge. Its extraordinary Napeague Meadow Road location provides students with endless inspiration.

Artists of all ages will be presenting and selling pieces that cover a variety of different mediums and styles. Half of the proceeds from the show will go towards the benefit of The Art Barge’s programs and maintenance.

Summer students, community members and faculty are welcome to submit a work to the exhibit, which must be no larger than 36″ X 36″ square. To enter a piece, email [email protected] with Attn: Art Sail and make sure to include the artwork’s details (artist name, title, price). Entries must be submitted by Wednesday, September 21st and must be dropped off before 12 p.m. on Friday, September 23rd.
