CRUSH Curatorial, an artist-run curatorial project in New York City and Amagansett, is pleased to present The Castle of Perseverance, in conjunction with the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF), from Saturday, October 8th through Saturday, October 22nd. The exhibit’s Opening Reception will take place on Saturday, October 8th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“As the Founder and Creative Director of CRUSH Curatorial, I hope that this exhibit will promote a meaningful exchange of ideas between participating artists and filmmakers that attend the Hamptons International Film Festival,” said Karen Flatow. “The Hamptons community will have a chance to view how 15 artists grapple with an important theatrical and film device, ‘the prop’, and will hopefully enrich their viewing experience at the Film Festival.”
Molly Surno is the curator of this exhibit – which will feature a selection of talented artists whose creations span throughout many mediums. The Castle of Perseverance pieces will explore the function of symbols as props that set a potential scene. The exhibit’s title, The Castle of Perseverance, comes from the first theatrical production to cite and utilize props outside of masks. In the original play, there is an “allegorical battle between good and evil over the soul of mankind. The two sides are equal, with 15 good characters balanced against 15 bad characters.” For this show, 15 artists will provide two works that mirror the characters in the play.

Participating artists include Robin Cameron, Jay Davis, Stacy Fisher, Alexis Georgopoulos, Ben Hagari, Jon Kessler, Mathias, Kessler, Molly Lowe, Oliver Michaels, Patrick Carlin Mohundro, Eva O’Leary, Allison Schulnik, Peter Sutherland, Alina Tenser, and Emily Weiner.
The Castle of Perseverance can be viewed on Saturdays from 12 to 5 p.m. and on Sundays by appointment only.
