Tripoli Gallery is pleased to present Benjamin Keating’s debut solo exhibition, On View, from Friday, May 12 through Saturday, June 11. The exhibition features works on paper, paintings, and sculptural maquettes, which are all made of solid metal. In his exhibition, Keating will unveil selections of his most recent works which are all hand cast in aluminum and bronze. He uses wax in each of his works as he paints and sculpts with it.

“It’s nice seeing only Keating’s work inhabit the entire Gallery during this, his debut solo Exhibition,” said Tripoli Patterson, owner of Tripoli Gallery. “Together they bring this timelessness of destruction and rebirth, like a memory that’s hard to tell whether it’s a relaxing or dramatic one, but memorable either way.”
Keating looks to create works of art that resemble objects in his life. His work as an artist all began during his formative years as a poet. His sense of art and vision has always been keen. Keating moved to Bridgehampton in 1998 and started his first studio practice where he worked and lived for two years.
“In this series, the free-association of images and the innate nature of his rhythmic improvisations provide Keating with a unique ability to mediate scale—where ‘rightness’ is measured not with size alone, but with the accuracy of size in portraying a psychological condition that is unified, yet flexible,” said Phong Bui, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of The Brooklyn Rail. “In Ben Keating’s world, the sculpture is in constant locomotion.”
Keating was born in Brooklyn in 1977 and over the course of his career, he has been commissioned by noteworthy artists, exhibited selectively throughout New York. He has also been featured in group shows at Paul Kasmin Gallery, in a Brooklyn Rail auction at Pace Gallery, and alongside some of the great artists at the Mana Contemporary in Jersey City where his metal-casting facility is based.
