Crush Curatorial, an artist-run gallery founded by Karen Hesse Flatow, will make its 2018 debut with a one-day affair that will bring together artists, curators, and the community.
“There is an overwhelming amount of singularly strong artists that also work tirelessly to promote and advocate for other artists in New York City and the East End, this exhibit highlights their work and their ventures to echo the importance of both their work as artists, but also as culture producers,” noted Hesse Flatow, who co-curated the exhibition with Catherine Haggarty, and both have artwork featured.
Untitled Projects will encompasses an eclectic mix of works from Scott Bluedorn, Jess Cannon, Courtney Childress, Vince Contarino, Nick Cueva, Courtney Childress, Jess Cannon, Hilary Doyle, Hesse Flatow, Devra Freelander, Janet Goleas, Jesse Greenberg, Jenn Hitchings, JJ Manford, Kimia Kline, Calli Moore, Leeza Meksin, Andrew Prayzner, Sara Maria Salamone, Molly Surno, Tyler Lafreniere, Zach Seeger, Elisa Soliven, and Almond Zigmund.
“We are excited to feature the work of these twenty four artists who are also directors, founders and collaborators to the ever growing wave of artist run projects,” Haggarty shared. “These artists were selected because of the dual strength of both their work and their successful ventures as curators, writers, and advocates for artists.”
As the way viewers encounter art continues to evolve, from the traditional gallery settings to artist-run collectives to online exhibition spaces and even social media, artists now have even more opportunities to connect with admirers.
“We hope that this exhibit will serve a model for inspiring other artist-run projects on the East End,” Hesse Flatow added.
Untitled Projects will be on display Saturday, May 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Hesse Flatow founded Crush Curatorial in 2016 to champion artistic experiences that were beyond the conventional gallery structure. In addition to the Hamptons Crush Curatorial exhibition space, Hesse Flatow also presents shows in Chelsea.
