Nick & Toni’s in East Hampton and The Golden Eagle Studio are continuing their beloved artist series “A Night Out With…” this winter. This series features art workshops followed by dinner with the guest artist at Nick & Toni’s. Peter Spacek is up next on Wednesday, January 23 at 5:30 p.m.
“We are excited to kick off our winter series of ‘A Night Out With Peter Spacek,’ in collaboration with Nick & Toni’s. It’s a fun evening spent hanging with the artist, viewing and discussing his work while having a delicious meal,” remarked Nancy Rowan, owner of The Golden Eagle. “Cartoonist Peter Spacek shares his journey from his beginnings as wave chaser, fish catcher, clam gatherer and just a dude with a pen and a bottle of ink, to icon of Hamptons surf and mirth.”
Spacek, an East End artist and cartoonist, currently designs and illustrates whimsical letter forms. His alphabet of local images and seashore life reflects his love of the East End and its well-loved beaches. Spacek was raised in California, though he was drawn to New York thanks to its bustling artistic community.
He pursued a career in editorial illustration and his love of surfing brought him to Montauk. Spacek has worked for several major magazines and newspapers and his card designs can be found in the Museum of Modern Art’s gift collection. Today, Spacek is the editorial cartoonist for the East Hampton Star. He also has a line of humorous beach culture greeting cards and graphic apparel sold under the Ditch Ink brand. When he’s not drawing, surfing, or fishing, Spacek creates scrimshaw fine art on recycled surfboards. He recently wrote and illustrated a guide to surf etiquette called Wetiquette.
“A chance to humbly explain myself, my methods and my eclectic (I’m told) body of work,” said Spacek. “In an amusing and enlightening manner of course. Dinner at Nick and Toni’s to follow…Awesome!”
