Catch An Intimate Set From Duncan Sheik At Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center

On Friday, June 19th at 8 p.m., Duncan Sheik is headlining at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center (WHBPAC), with singer-songwriter Jeff LeBlanc as the evening’s opening act.

The folk-pop luminary and composer launched his musical career in 1996, with his self-titled debut, “Duncan Sheik.” The musician quickly earned himself a Grammy nomination for his hit “Barely Breathing,” which spent 55 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. After releasing two more folk-pop albums to critical acclaim, Sheik started writing for the stage. He composed the original score for the Broadway hit “Spring Awakening,” which earned eight Tony awards and a Grammy for best show album. Sheik also composed original music for “Whisper House” and “The Nightingale,” based on the writings of Hans Christian Andersen.

In April 2015, he released “Legerdemain,” his first album of original songs since 2009’s “Whisper House.”

“The songs from the new album, “Legerdemain,” feel full-circle; intimate and contemplative, they recall his very earliest work and especially Humming, his ripe-to-be-rediscovered second album,” said said Ann Powers of NPR. “Telling complicated little stories via spare lyrics and subtle studio wizardry, these songs beautifully balance Sheik’s pop know-how and his theatrical impulses.”
