Each year, the Plant & Sing Festival arrives at the historic Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island for a weekend of harvesting fall crops and planting garlic, followed by a celebration of songs, dances, recitations and local bounty.
“Plant & Sing Festival is one of the best ways to enjoy a fall afternoon, listening to legendary musicians of Bluegrass and traditional American music and enjoying our local bounty of great food and libations,” shared Kim Folks, Development Manager at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm. “It’s a great day, and a great way to celebrate getting back to basics with food, fun and family.”
The Festival will begin at the Windmill Field (21 Manwaring Road, Shelter Island) on Saturday, October 10th with an Old-Time Jam and Crab Boil at 6 p.m., and Shucking, Singing, and More Eating at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the activities continue at the Windmill Field with Garlic Planting and Worksongs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. After the planting is completed, attendees will be rewarded for all their hard work during a series of concerts at the Manor House, which opens at 3 p.m. The live music will feature Edith & Bennett at 4 p.m., Bryan Sutton & Michael Daves at 4:15 p.m., The Seldom Scene at 5:15 p.m., Contra Dance with Ed Howe’s Ramblers at 7 p.m., and Late Night Songs and Jam around the fire at 9 p.m.

The Plant & Sing Festival will also include demonstrations, kids’ activities, food trucks from Vine Street Cafe, Hayground Pizza, and The Sea Bea, a beer and wine tent with local offerings, and more.
Admission ranges from free to $50.
