Hamptons Pre-Fourth Of July Concert To Support Amagansett Life-Saving Station

On Friday, June 29, the works of musical luminaries Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) and Béla Bartók (1881-1945) will be brought to life by Deborah Carmichael of Libero Canto and friends during a benefit concert for the Amagansett Life-Saving Station.

For the one night only show, Carmichael will be joined by vocalists Kinga Cserjési, Marisa Michelson, and Sara Serpa, as well as Nikita Morozov on violin, Yuri Namkung on violin, Valeriya Sholokhova on cello, and Danica Borisavljevic on piano. Additionally, there will be guest appearances by members of the Choral Society of the Hamptons, including Allen Fein, Janet Fensterer, William Gosman, Evan Harrel, Vivian Lindemann, and Susan Raymond.

“It’s gratifying both personally and professionally to be able to contribute to the Amagansett Life-Saving Station by giving this benefit performance,” said Carmichael.

Constructed in 1902, the Amagansett Station was operated by the U.S. Life-Saving Service from 1902 to 1915, and then the U.S. Coast Guard from 1955 to 1944. In 2007, The Amagansett U.S. Life-Saving & Coast Guard Station Society began a six-year restoration of the Station that restored and returned the Station to its original glory.

“I spent much of my childhood in the house, and I’m looking forward very much to going back there with my colleagues and filling the boat room with music,” Carmichael added.

Monteverdi & Bartók: A Benefit Concert for the Amagansett Life-Saving Station will begin at 7 p.m. and a reception will follow.

There is no set admission fee to attend; however there is a suggested donation of $25.

Later on in the summer, the Amagansett Life-Saving Station will host its Annual Fund-Raising Lobster Bake on Saturday, July 14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Amagansett U.S. Life-Saving and Coast Guard Society’s mission is “to preserve and protect the history of the Amagansett Station, its surfmen, and America’s fast-vanishing Life-Saving and early Coast Guard stations and watercraft.” The U.S Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station museum is committed to honoring the Station’s historical preservation and those who served at the Amagansett U.S. Life-Saving & Coast Guard Station from 1902 to 1944, as well as to education for future generations.
