The Bash At Mash: Festival Of Music, Love And Peace Man!

“By the time we got to Woodstock, We were half a million strong, And everywhere was a song and a celebration,” (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young).

For those who remember that music festival, you are not alone as there are many in our community who still do, and in a celebratory acknowledgement of not only the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, but a celebration of the wonderful community of Sag Harbor and the beauty of Mashashimuet Park and Otter Pond, The Bash at the Mash, which will raise necessary funds for the park, is scheduled for Sunday, August 25.

Organized by Joe Lauro of The Hoodoo Loungers, who will be performing; Charlie Canavan of the Sag Harbor Hysterical Society and Bruce Beyer, along with the cooperation of the Parks Department, you are encouraged to grab your chair, cooler, kids, camera and love beads (optional) and head out “from 2:00 p.m. to dark” to hear five musical acts.

Lauro relayed, “This is going to be just a really nice day in the park to help raise funds to enrich the playground space and keep the park the fantastic gathering space it is.” Performing will be the Montauk Project, The Rum Hill Rockers, Jim Turner, Roses Grove Band and a final jam session with all the acts.

According to Charlie Canavan, “I have worked on a number of events like this in the past, and when we heard the park needed to raise funds for swings and other equipment, it seemed like a great idea to throw a party there with a concert on the hill. We have the space and parking too.”

Tickets are a suggested donation of $10 at the park, kids enter free. There will be food, water and ice cream for sale. No pets or alcohol are allowed in the park.

Mashashimuet Park is certainly a bit older than Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, NY, however, according to park history, “In 1908, Sag Harbor benefactress, Mrs. Russell Sage, began the process to create what would later be named Mashashimuet Park for the youth and families of the area.” As Yasgur did donate his farm for three days of love, peace and music for 1960’s youth and families, perhaps the idea of bringing people together to enjoy great music and each other will just keep rolling on and on.
